A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation grappling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the forty-year-old presenter was approached by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.

The reason of the attack is unknown and no one has been arrested have been made, as per the official statement.

The Fatal Incident

Law enforcement said that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a building near the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the property supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, it was reported.

"The report indicates the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement said.

Security camera video reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what looked like a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the attack.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were found at the scene.

Appeal for Witnesses

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have have information to come forward.

"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the attack, and police have been tracking them to determine their destination," stated a police chief.

His family member, a close relative, expressed the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am devastated. I don't have words," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were willing to tackle. This is a devastating blow."

She appealed to the citizens to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the scene, saying this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's three sons.
